Every day
I see or hear
something
that more or less
kills me
with delight,
that leaves me
like a needle
in the haystack
of light.
It was what I was born for -
to look, to listen,
to lose myself
inside this soft world -
to instruct myself
over and over
in joy,
and acclamation.
Nor am I talking
about the exceptional,
the fearful, the dreadful,
the very extravagant –
but of the ordinary,
the common, the very drab,
the daily presentations.
Oh, good scholar,
I say to myself,
how can you help
but grow wise
with such teachings
as these -
the untrimmable light
of the world,
the ocean’s shine,
the prayers that are made
out of grass?

For the record, I am a recovering Laker fan. I grew up watching the later years of Magic Johnson, Nick Van Exel, Eddie Jones, Sedale Threatt, Cedric Ceballos, Mike Penberthy, Travis Knight.. who else.. Anthony Peeler… I stopped being a fan after the Kobe, Shaq, Glen Rice era. After that I switched to the other LA team that wasn’t getting any love. Not because they deserved it (because they lose) but because it feels great when the unexpected happens. Its like a stock that I invest in at its low point and has potential to really blow up.. I have the right to say I’ve been with them from the start.
I was also very intrigued by the type of talent they have. I’ve been Clipper fan since the era of Darius Miles, Lamar Odom, and Quentin Richardson. You can’t call me a bandwagon fan because bandwagoners jump on when the team wins. The Clippers aren’t winners.. yet that is.
Anyway, although I usually cheer for any team playing against the Lakers, this time I really didn’t care who won. I didn’t really talk trash because I wasn’t necessarily rooting for the Celtics. My team isn’t involved so I didn’t care. I was just interested in who won because I enjoy watching the sport. Although I don’t particularly like Kobe, watching him play is like poetry in motion. What I don’t like are ignorant sports fans who don’t respect their opponents. This series was different because Laker fans were truly scared they could lose it which made it fun for me. Im not a hater.. I just like to see/hear Laker fans sweat.
It’s like March Madness.. you have a team you cheer for, you make your bracket, your bracket gets busted, but you still watch til the Final Four and the Finals just to see who won.. an I must say.. that was a GREAT series. A classic for sure.
Congratulations Lakers and fans.
